However, there are concerns that soaring gasoline prices could adversely impact tourism this summer. This would affect hotels, resorts, restaurants and other businesses dependent on tourists and visitors from California. “While soaring gas prices certainly are a concern, we feel visitors will continue to travel this summer—especially visitors from short-drive markets such as within Arizona and Southern California,” said Rachel Pearson, spokeswoman for the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Last summer, despite high gas prices, visitors came to Scottsdale in record numbers, giving the city an average 63% occupancy during the summer months,” Ms. Pearson said.
